NAHB NAMES GREATER ATLANTA HBA'S PAST PRESIDENT, MICHAEL TURNER, 2013 GRADUATE MASTER REMODELER OF THE YEAR

Michael Turner, CAPS, CGP, CGR, GMB, GMR, a 40-year industry veteran based in the Greater Atlanta area, has been named the 2013 Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR) of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The GMR is the premier professional designation for remodelers.

For more than 26 years, Turner owned TLC Builders Inc., a remodeling, building and development firm in Roswell, Ga. Previously, he was a project manager, supervisor and sales associate for several builders in the area.

Turner now serves as vice president for The Home Service Store, Inc. The Kennesaw, Ga.-based company coordinates the marketing, sales and installation of home improvement projects through a national network of more than 700 independent dealers and installers that have been vetted for workmanship, service quality, insurance coverage and reliability. HSS’ business model offers home owners a wide range of choices in on products such as flooring, windows, siding and insulation for their home improvement products.

A former chairman for NAHB Remodelers, Turner earned his GMR in 2010. He also holds NAHB’s Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS), Certified Green Professional™ (CGP), Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) and Graduate Master Builder (GMB) designations.

The GMR of the Year is awarded to the industry professional who best showcases the importance of the educational designation and promotes professionalism within the remodeling industry. To earn the GMR, candidates must possess 15 years of remodeling experience and have held the CGR or another remodeling designation for a minimum of nine years.

Turner and other leading industry professionals will be recognized on Feb. 3 at the 2014 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.

"Michael understands that it’s every member’s responsibility to promote professionalism in the industry, and that one of the best ways to demonstrate that professionalism is through education," said Michael Menn, CAPS, CGP, CGR, chairman of the Certified Graduate Remodeler Board of Governors and a remodeler from Northbrook, Ill. "The GMR is one of the highest honors a remodeler can achieve, and Michael has represented the designation extremely well. I congratulate Michael on this well-deserved honor."
