Wood Decks: New code requirements are here! with Daniel Jewitt
There are many ways to construct a deck and many of them are not structurally sound!
This session will overview prescriptive designs for wood decks that will help avoid the pitfalls of structural inadequacy, premature failures, costly repairs, and frustrated home owners. This includes the comprehensive 22-page Georgia amendment for the 2014 changes.
Topics will include:
- The International Residential Code – 2006 edition
- The Georgia Amendments to the 2006 IRC
- Wood Decks – Chapter 3 by the Forest Products Society (A Georgia Amendment)
- Prescriptive Deck Details – 2012 IRC Georgia Amendment (Jan. 2014)
Daniel Jewitt will facilitate this session. Daniel has been an instructor for over 15 years. He has specialized in training for the International Residential Code (IRC) and for test preparation for Georgia Contractor Licensing. Besides experience as a home inspector, Daniel has a BA in History & Political Science from Kent State University.
