HomeAid Atlanta, in partnership with Builder Captain Harcrest Homes, will begin construction of an apartment building for Rainbow Village in October. Rainbow Village is a long-term transformational housing community for homeless families in north metro Atlanta. HomeAid Atlanta, the designated charity of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, has joined forces with Harcrest Homes to construct the six-unit apartment building. Each apartment at Rainbow Village includes three bedrooms, kitchen, living room, and two bathrooms.

Lynnette’s story: a true story about Rainbow Village:

I came to Rainbow Village alone, scared and beaten down. I was pregnant with my third child and had two small children under two. I had left an abusive marriage and moved from another state.

Rainbow Village showed me that I did not have to live that way anymore. I have learned what family truly means. I’ve learned how to reach out, get help, and help those in need around me.

I learned how to manage my money through the life skill classes attended and successfully purchased a home after leaving the program. I learned how to trust others. Most important, Rainbow Village never once looked upon me as anything other than a woman trying to put her life back together. They understood I was looking for a helping hand up. Homeless yes, helpless no!

I have been blessed to have the tools now to be able raise happy and well-adjusted children, and to know that we are never alone and will always have the support of Rainbow Village. After all, it truly does take a village to raise a child. (Read more testimonials here.)

Mike Smith of Harcrest Homes has generously donated his time to lead the construction effort, and trade partners (material and labor donations) are currently being sought to reduce construction costs. Harcrest Homes is a long-term member of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Certified Professional Home Builder.

Building commencement is expected in early October as part of Phase II of Rainbow Village’s "Building Strong Communities...One Family at a Time" three-phase campaign. When complete, the campus will consist of a 30-family "village," including a community center, family service center, and administrative offices.
