In honor of Mother’s Day, we invite you to help homeless moms and their babies through HomeAid Atlanta’s 2012 Essentials for Young Lives® Drive, going on now through May 7. As you may know, the drive is a community-wide effort to collect "essentials" such as diapers and baby food for homeless mothers and their infants in the metro Atlanta area.  Sadly, women and children are among the fastest-growing segments of the homeless population, so the need for these essential items is great.

It’s easy to get involved!  You can help by collecting essential baby items from among your co-workers, customers, friends and family.  Donations of new items can be dropped off at any of the designated drop-off sites located around the metro Atlanta area through May 7 (drop-off dates/times vary by location, and several locations are already collecting).  Donations can also be made conveniently online through HomeAid Atlanta’s baby registry at Target.  We ask that all items be new and in their original packaging.  Remember, your donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Essential items needed include:
  • diapers – all sizes
  • baby wipes
  • baby food
  • formula
  • baby hygiene products
Everything collected through the drive will be distributed to local nonprofit organizations serving homeless families and children in the metro Atlanta area.  These organizations operate facilities that have been built in partnership with HomeAid Atlanta and include Decatur Cooperative Ministry (Decatur), Genesis – A New Life (Atlanta), HomeStretch (Roswell), My House (Canton), Phoenix Pass (Conyers), Tapestry Youth Ministries (College Park and Fairburn) and The Drake House (Roswell).  The items will be delivered just before Mother’s Day, providing critical support to these organizations and the mothers and babies they serve.

Volunteers are needed on Wednesday, May 9 from 1-4 p.m. at the HBA to assist with sorting and counting all the items collected.  If you’re interested in volunteering to help with sorting, click here.
