Residential Contractor Licensing Exam Prep Course at Southern Polytechnic University

Are you ready to take the Residential Builder Licensing Exam?

Georgia state law requires home builders to be licensed and regulated by the State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors effective July 1, 2008.  Eligibility for licensure will be determined by the board for all candidates who have successfully applied for and passed their licensing examination.  The Greater Atlanta HBA is offering a two-day class to prepare builders for the state exam.  (The open book exam covers business and law, codes, general references and residential-light topics.)  The exam is an open book test and uses the following reference materials:

RESIDENTIAL BASIC:
•    Building Component: The Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining and Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses
•    Carpentry and Building Construction, 2004
•    Code of Federal Regulations, 29 CFR 1926 Selections, as of January 2003
•    Contractors Guide to Business, Law and Project Management, 1st Ed
•    Georgia Rules of State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors
•    International Energy Conservation Code, 2009 with amendments
•    International Residential Code, 2006 with ’07 amendments
•    Modern Masonry-Brick, Block, Stone, 2003
•    Pipe and Excavation Contracting, 1987
•    The Contractor’s Guide to Quality Concrete Construction, 2005

RESIDENTIAL LIGHT COMMERCIAL:
•    Building Component
•    Carpentry and Building Construction, 2004
•    Code of Federal Regulations, 29 CFR 1926 Selections, as of January 2003
•    Contractors Guide to Business, Law and Project Management, 1st Ed
•    Georgia Accessibility Code, 1997
•    Gypsum Construction Handbook, 1987 
•    Handling and Erection of Steel Joists and Joist Girders, 2006
•    International Building Code, 2006 with ’07 amendments  
•    International Energy Conservation Code, 2009 with amendments

Cost: $295 Greater Atlanta HBA member, $350 other HBA member, $395 non-member.
