BC – Industry participation impacts new gas codes

Print this Article

The new gas codes, including the 2020 edition of the CSA B149 gas code series, are now in effect in B.C. as of October 1, 2022

TSBC stated that the work done by the Gas Codes Advisory Group helped it understand the impact of these code changes on industry and the public. The CPA thanks all members who participated in this group.

As a result of industry engagement, some important changes were made to the code, although not all recommendations were approved as originally proposed:

  • Carbon monoxide monitor installation: No change at this time. Gasfitters will not be required to install CO monitors during gas equipment installations and replacements.
  • Certification or approval requirements for generators and stationary engines: This will not come into effect until October 1, 2023, to allow time for transition.
  • Requirements for portable appliances: New appliances can be approved as portable through the design registration and product approval process. These changes are in effect as of October 1, 2022, but do not apply to existing equipment.
