UPDATE – Federal: Progressive enforcement period announced for electronic logging devices

Print this Article

On November 5, 2020, the CPA posted a story regarding transportation industry concerns over Transport Canada’s (TC) implementation of Electronic Logging Devices and the timeline for implementation.

TC has indicated it is firm on the June 2021 deadline for logging device requirements but specified that it will enforce the requirements through educational outreach for the initial 12 months. After the 12-month educational period, it would then move to a punitive approach.

TC’s progressive enforcement period would allow industry to adapt to a program that has yet to establish any approved platforms on its website. It would also allow time for industry to change to a different device should their original platform not be capable of meeting the certification requirements described in the regulation.
