Print this Article

This past summer, the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) presented the Projet d'encadrement des conversions au gaz propane et au gaz naturel des véhicules routiers (French only), a project to oversee auto propane and natural gas conversions for road vehicles.

The project was created for the following reasons:

  • Regained popularity of vehicle conversions;
  • To update the information in the SAAQ database for road vehicles equipped with a fuel system using natural gas or propane gas;
  • To identify companies involved in the conversion, verification and maintenance of gas-fuelled road vehicle fuel systems;
  • To ensure that companies doing this work are aware of the applicable regulations; and
  • The industry's call for increased monitoring of the sector.

Both the document and the presentation will be released to the public in October 2019. SAAQ plans to adopt the Ministerial Order in May 2020 and begin accreditation audits in September 2020.

For more information, please visit SAAQ's Website. The CPA and the Association québécoise du propane will jointly work together to engage members and ensure appropriate requirements for vehicle conversions.
