On January 12, 2022, the Canada Border Services Agency announced that Canadian truckers were exempt from the impending quarantine rule, an announcement that the federal government walked back the next day, stating that the regulations previously outlined still stand: all truckers crossing the border must be fully vaccinated since January 15.
 
 
   
The CPA has written to the federal government to act now and address the significant delays and associated additional costs incurred by CPA members from across Canada due to the increasingly problematic service provided by Canada’s railroads.
 
 
   
The B.C. government announced on January 24 that 2022 will be the final year that propane and natural gas stoves will be eligible for rebates under its Wood Stove Exchange Program, created in 2008.
 
 
   
The CPA has consistently stated support for reducing Canada’s carbon footprint. However, any reduction in energy options for Canadian consumers, particularly related to natural gas and therefore propane, is detrimental to consumers and manufacturers.
 
 
   
On January 24, the CPA issued a press release announcing the association’s sponsorship of the second season of HGTV Canada’s Rock Solid Builds set to premier on Thursday, January 27.
 
 
   
The CPA and the U.S.-based Propane Energy Research Council (PERC) recently met to discuss communications approaches. Of specific focus were those PERC messages that were resonating with their U.S. audience.
 
The CPA is continuing to seek a full exemption for propane under the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act in the provinces where the Act applies, namely Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Manitoba.
 
 
   
On January 6, CPA Interim President Allan Murphy wrote to members of the House of Commons Finance Committee as part of an effort by the CPA to have energy for residential use be taxed zero-rated.
 
As part of the CPA’s ongoing advocacy with Enbridge Line 5, the CPA will be issuing a national op-ed in the first quarter of 2022 in support of the pipeline.
 
 
   
The federal government’s $24-million Energy Innovation Program in which it funds fuel switching applications, includes propane.
