NEW – BC: Last year of eligibility for propane and natural gas stoves under the Wood Stove Exchange Program

The B.C. government announced on January 24 that 2022 will be the final year that propane and natural gas stoves will be eligible for rebates under its Wood Stove Exchange Program, created in 2008.

The government stated that “although these appliances reduce particulate matter pollution relative to wood stoves, they burn fossil fuels and therefore produce carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.” The program will continue to support electric heat pumps, high-efficiency gas heat pumps and hybrid-electric heat pump gas systems, as well as emissions-certified wood and pellet stoves.

The CPA will continue its advocacy across the province for propane and renewable propane as an important and vital part of the province’s low-carbon energy future.
