The CPA met with Benjamin Levitt, stakeholder relations director and Hannah Anderson, policy director from the Red Tape Reduction Ministry, on October 14. The CPA outlined key red tape and business burdens that Ontario’s propane providers would like to see removed or reduced. These include: TSSA’s new fee structure increases, onerous Risk & Safety Management Plans renewal requirements for Level 1 facilities, and Highway Traffic Act seasonal load restrictions.
Anderson and Levitt suggested further engagement with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario to mitigate seasonal load hindrances and committed to following-up with the Minister of Government and Consumer Services Ross Romano with respect to TSSA issues.
One week earlier, on October 7, Associate Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction, Nina Tangri introduced a bill with several possible regulatory changes designed to decrease burden for business owners, notably restaurateurs.
Among the proposed changes, if passed, the legislation would make it easier for licensed restaurants to extend their patios, thereby potentially increasing propane heater use in these establishments.

The CPA has continuously lobbied Associate Minister Tangri and her cabinet colleagues to reduce regulatory and other business burdens for Ontario propane enterprises to spur economic recovery in remote and rural communities.
The CPA will continue dedicated outreach efforts with Minister Romano’s new Chief of Staff to seek redress for the TSSA fee increases.
