Shortly after his first election win on March 27, Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey received correspondence from the CPA that outlined the many advantages of propane.
In a letter to the Premier on April 7, Atlantic CPA Chair Royden Boudreau noted that over the past few years, the CPA has been actively involved in discussions with various provincial departments in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as the municipality of St. John’s, about how the industry can help Newfoundlanders reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Boudreau also pointed out that there is a growing recognition among industries, businesses and governments at all levels that increasing the use of propane – a safe, affordable, and reliable energy source – will allow Canadians to be more responsible to the environment, produce low-emission energy and provide good-paying jobs. He added that there is growing evidence that governments across Canada are choosing propane as an alternative fuel.
In response to Boudreau’s letter, the Premier’s office forwarded the correspondence to the Department of Industry, Energy and Technology. The CPA will be working to arrange a meeting with Minister Andrew Parsons to further discuss opportunities for the expanded use of propane in Newfoundland and Labrador.
