ON: Provincial elections 2018 – CPA reaches out to Premier Doug Ford

CPA President and CEO Nathalie St-Pierre wrote to Premier Ford to extend congratulations on behalf of members. The newly elected Progressive Conservative government of Ontario was sworn in on June 29, 2018.

In her letter, St-Pierre noted the many economic and environmental benefits the propane industry generates for Ontarians: 2,000 jobs and $128 million in fiscal impact annually. She also alerted the new premier to the unlevel playing field for the propane industry in Ontario that saw the previous administration pick winners and losers.

“In the past 10 years, propane has been pushed aside by Ontario policymakers in favour of other ‘clean’ energy technologies that are still in early stages of development and take a considerable amount of time, resources and financing to fully implement,” said St-Pierre. “It is our hope that under the new Progressive Conservative government, the focus can return to common sense energy solutions that help reduce greenhouse gases.”

St-Pierre closed her letter to Premier Ford indicating that the Ontario propane industry looks forward to working with the new premier and his cabinet.

Congratulatory letters were also extended to key ministers: Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines Greg Rickford, Minister of Transportation John Yakabuski, and Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Rod Phillips.

The association is currently developing a strategy and will assess the best way to advance home heating fuel conversions, Ontario Green Commercial Vehicle Program and regulatory reforms to reduce red tape in this new environment.
