As part of its government advocacy work, on November 7, the CPA presented the importance of propane in Alberta to the United Conservative Party caucus. The CPA emphasized the significant role propane plays in the province, including providing essential energy as feedstock for the petrochemical industry, power for the oil sands, and critical home heating for almost 20,000 residences.

Affordability is a key concern for Albertans and government incentives to switch to low-emission propane would offer immediate GHG reduction benefits for communities across the province. The CPA emphasized that the carbon intensity for propane is cleaner than the grid in Alberta, noting that promoting electric in this province will not necessarily produce a greener outcome. The Association also stated that propane should be included in policy and regulatory decisions that protect propane customers from price spikes and look to support displacing diesel in applicable markets.

The CPA looks forward to furthering engagement with the province on policy and regulatory issues affecting propane in Alberta.
