AB: Province’s natural gas rebate program includes propane!

After working with the Government of Alberta for several months, the CPA is pleased to see propane as part of the province’s natural gas rebate program.

The government recognized the increasingly high prices Albertans are paying for energy, and on June 29, 2022, introduced the rebate program to help protect consumers from spikes in heating costs this upcoming winter.

Propane is included as part of the program’s alternative fuel component. If natural gas prices exceed $6.50/GJ, consumers who use less than 2,500 gigajoules annually will be eligible. This includes most households, small apartment buildings, farms and small industrial and commercial operations. The program runs from October 1, 2022 until March 31, 2023. More information can be found here: Affordability programs | Alberta.ca

The CPA is working with other provincial authorities to encourage a similar approach as we head into winter season and Canadians continue to grapple with high energy, food and inflation costs. For questions, please contact VP Government Relations, West Katie Kachur.
