Provinces across Canada celebrate Bus Safety Week annually, on varying days between October 19-23. The CPA is taking the opportunity to promote propane buses during this week and highlight case studies across Canada.

Over the last couple of years there has been significant growth in propane school buses. In Atlantic Canada, New Brunswick began a pilot project with 16 propane buses last year, with positive feedback thus far and most recently, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education contracted Southland Transportation, which has been using propane buses since the 1980s, to bring kids to school in more than 140 propane buses. Southland Transportation serves communities across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Halifax, transporting about 50,000 kids daily on low-emission propane buses. Watch for our news release on the Halifax buses, which we will be issuing at the start of Bus Safety Week.

Other examples include the Regina Catholic School Division in Saskatchewan, which switched all of its 89 buses to propane in 2016 and the Brandon School Division in Manitoba, which began switching their fleet over seven years ago. They now have 24 of 45 of their buses running on propane, with plans to have all of their buses running on the alternative fuel by 2025.

To date, we have created three case studies and are in the process of completing social media posts for Bus Safety Week. We will be sending out an email within the next few weeks with links to the studies, which will be posted on our website, as well as to the posts. Please like us/retweet us as well as publish your own posts. We will be using the hashtags #BusSafetyWeek, #Propane and #Safety.

This year’s international Auto Propane Day takes place Wednesday, November 4, 2020. This dedicated event, created by the World LPG Association last year, is designed to promote the benefits of auto propane, including its contribution to cleaner air, its proven safety and reliability, and low costs.

The CPA will once again put together social media materials for you to post on your social media platforms.

In addition to the social media campaign, we also encourage you to organize activities on November 4. Activities to promote auto propane could include:

  • Partnering up with a local car dealer to promote propane vehicles and set up test drives
  • Partnering with companies that offer vehicle conversions to auto propane and invite local government, media and other stakeholders to your event

If you host an event, don’t forget to take photos and post on social media so that we can reply to further amplify the posts.

The CPA has designed a promotional banner for outside use that can be posted into the ground to help support any activities that you may plan for your campaign. The main design of the banner is shown here but you may personalize it and add your own logo. The cost per banner is $380+ taxes and shipping* and can be ordered by filling in the Instant Imprints Order Form and emailing it to: store5007@instantimprints.com

We have begun updating the auto propane section of our website, which now contains a separate auto propane tab and drop down menus for fleets and schools buses. We will keep you posted as new material becomes available.

Let’s work together to promote auto propane and raise awareness about one of the cleanest, safest alternative fuels available!
