According to the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association’s (HPBA) biennial consumer survey, backyard cooks are finding new occasions to grill as well as new months of the year to fire up their barbecues. The latest survey suggests that backyard barbecuing could expand to near record levels.

According to the survey, gas remains the most popular fuel, with 61 per cent of grill owners using propane, followed by charcoal (49 per cent), which has increased slightly since 2017 (45 per cent).

The survey was conducted prior to the pandemic and the consumer sample was representative of the U.S. and Canadian populations.

The HPBA is the North American industry association for manufacturers, retailers, distributors, representatives, service firms and allied associates for all types of barbecue, patio and hearth appliances, fuels and accessories.
