On July 10, 2019, the CPA participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by newly appointed Minister of Government and Consumer Services (MGCS) Lisa Thompson in Toronto. The new Board of the TSSA was represented along with TSSA executives and staff as well as Ministry staff.

In addition to CPA representatives’ Ontario Director of Government Relations Marcelline Riddell and Business Development & Training Advisor George Olah, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Enbridge Gas, food manufacturers, boiler installers and repairs, and elevator engineers participated in the discussion.

TSSA President and CEO Bonnie Rose outlined plans to modernize the agency and listened to industry accounts of how businesses across the spectrum are overburdened by regulation, inspection schedules and fees. The Minister emphasized the need to modernize the TSSA and requested input and ideas into improving Ontario’s economic situation while focusing on risk-based safety regulation. The CPA will meet with the Minister privately in September 2019 to discuss specific industry regulatory impediments to economic development in Ontario.
