As a result of Premier Ford’s Cabinet shuffle at the end of June, several key ministers for the propane industry were impacted. (Click here for the news release and for additional information, refer to the TSA Analysis: 2019 Ontario Cabinet Shuffle.)

CPA has reached out to congratulate and engage the ministers in their new portfolios. CPA President and CEO Nathalie St-Pierre sent letters to Finance Minister Rod Phillips, Minister of Government and Consumer Services Lisa Thompson, Economic Development Minister Vic Fedeli, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Jeff Yurek, Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney, and Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities Ross Romano.

CPA participated in a business roundtable discussion hosted by Minister Thompson on July 10, along with other industries and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). The discussion was intended to provide a forum for the minister to hear the concerns of industry and small businesses. The aim was to “connect business stakeholders with ministry staff and TSSA to identify opportunities for reducing the burden for small businesses while protecting public safety.”

CPA used this opportunity to brief the minister on the many regulatory burdens Ontario’s propane sector faces. It is encouraging the minister had organized this event so quickly upon her appointment. Members will be updated on the outcome of these discussions in upcoming newsletters.
