Chicago-based Redwood Logistics announced this week their acquisition of Strive Logistics, creating a burgeoning multimodal provider with more than $1 billion in freight under management. The combined companies will operate under the Redwood brand with Strive CEO Ben Greene, President Jon Provus and the rest of the Strive management team joining the Redwood organization.

UK-based Wheatsheaf has acquired a 90 percent ownership of Purfresh, best known for its specialized temperature-controlled systems and cargo-monitoring software, Intellipur. The cloud-based platform offers remote control of temperature-sensitive cargo, and is used by ocean carriers, 3PLs and fruit exporters alike.

The spot rate market rose and stayed high throughout 2019, with the Atlanta to Philadelphia lane rising and then falling by more than $1 from its base of $2.50 to a low this month of $1.44 - a rate not seen since February 2016.

Expecting to be up and running by mid-2020, food giant Goya Foods will open a second warehouse in Orlando. A spokesperson for the company said the company had literally 'maxed out' its other Orlando warehouse and would build an additional 330,000-square-foot facility that would also be serviceable by rail.
