Celebrating EPA’s Climate Partnership Programs

This year, EPA is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the founding of Green Lights, the agency’s first climate partnership program, as well as its legacy. As an Affiliate Partner in SmartWay,  one of EPA’s current climate partnership programs, and the only partnership program in OTAQ, we invite you to join in the celebration and help us spread the word about our impacts.

Program Impacts
Over the past 30 years, EPA’s Climate Partnership Programs have served to broaden and diversify the agency’s climate approach—working hand-in-hand with the tens of thousands of private sector partners and state and local governments to achieve more than would be possible through federal regulations alone. Organizations like yours are what have made these programs so successful!

  • EPA’s Climate Partnership Programs like SmartWay have helped Americans save more than $500 billion and achieve more than 6 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, a total which exceeds all U.S. carbon dioxide emissions in 2019.
  • In 2019 alone, these programs drove reductions equivalent to 8% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.
  • SmartWay program successes—since 2004, U.S. trucking companies have saved $41.8 billion on fuel costs, and SmartWay has helped its partners save 312 million barrels of oil—equivalent to eliminating annual electricity use in over 20 million homes. We have a lot to celebrate!

Celebrating You
We’re excited to share these results with the world, to show how businesses, organizations, and communities like yours are tackling the climate crisis and leading the way to a clean energy economy. You’ve demonstrated that environmental progress goes hand-in-hand with economic growth and job creation. You’re delivering smart climate solutions that not only strengthen our economies and our cities but improve lives and the health of our planet.

Thank you for all you do as a SmartWay Affiliate. We appreciate your commitment and your willingness to stand alongside EPA on the front lines of the climate crisis. We hope you will join in the celebration, spread the word about the power of partnerships, and receive some well-earned recognition for your efforts.
