According to findings published in JAMA earlier this week, an expert panel has completed an updated version of previous recommendations for doctors screening children for obesity. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force now recommends intensive behavioral interventions for kids ages 6 and older with a high body mass index. Nearly one in five children in the United States are considered obese. (NPR)

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signed legislation this week requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in every public classroom in Louisiana. The law, which pertains to public elementary, secondary and postsecondary schools, makes Louisiana the only state in the U.S. with such a mandate. Critics, including the ACLU, have already vowed to mount a constitutional challenge saying the law violates longstanding Supreme Court precedent and the First Amendment. (CNN)
A federal judge this week blocked the Department of Education's Title IX final rule in six states, less than a week after another decision blocked the regulation in Louisiana and three other states. Conservative states are contesting the rule’s inclusion of LGBTQ+ students and have filed multiple lawsuits seeking to stop the rule from taking effect Aug. 1. (K-12 DIVE)
