FEWA is pleased to announce our Fall 2022 Applied Expert Witness Skills Virtual Summit, delivered live via Zoom, 10:30 Central Time to 4:00 PM Central Time, October 10 and 11, 2022. An applied skills summit for experts of all types and specialties, those aspiring to be experts, and those supporting experts with the aim of live education that helps professionals located anywhere to become better expert witnesses.

Up to 10 hours of learning! 8 hours professional education + 2 hours virtual professional practice salons = up to 10 hours; 4 hours each day, 2 days of education; plus 2 hours constructive professional collaboration or membership benefit maximization.

The Certified Forensic Litigation Consultant (CFLC) is a professional certification awarded to Forensic Expert Witness Association (FEWA) Professional members who met the eligibility criteria established. The criteria require significant participation in FEWA activities and completion of educational courses in the subjects of forensic analysis, litigation consulting and expert witnessing. Recipients shall be certified by FEWA that they are familiar with duties and responsibilities of providing forensic, consulting, and expert witness services in litigated claims in a core program consisting of nine distinct areas of study (the “Core Program”).

Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard captured the attention of celebrity news junkies. The litigation also raised concerns about the extent to which an expert’s testimony against a celebrity might harm the expert. The trial has ended but celebrity news sites continue to post related tidbits. Eve Barlow, a friend of Heard who was banned from the trial after violating a court order against bringing electronic devices into the courtroom, is in the news for complaining that one of Depp’s expert witnesses is a friend of Depp’s lawyer.

An expert witness is a key part of most court cases; in either the plaintiff’s position or the defense’s position. They bring critical perspectives and informational points to the court to help determine verdicts that are fair and in accordance with the law. One thing to consider is whether or not an expert witness can refuse to answer questions in court-ordered depositions.

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled that treating physicians who have personal and direct knowledge of the patient in question and who testify as to the standard of care, diagnosis, and treatment for that patient are not considered experts for purposes of the One Expert Rule. Further, the One Expert Rule's purpose is to reduce costs in presenting multiple expert witnesses rather than combating cumulative evidence, which is already addressed by Rule 403 of the Arizona Rules of Evidence.

However, a Legal Nurse Consultant is very different from a traditional RN.
