Miguel Oliveira, owner and an engineer at Mendol USA in Dania Beach, has been involved in all aspects of the marine industry. He has had the opportunity to service, rebuild, remanufacture and certify more than 3,600 engines, including MTU, Caterpillar, MAN and Mitsubishi. Oliveira has extensive experience, such as in shaft seals; the engine component remanufacturing and assembly process; and knowledge in vibration analysis, alignment and precision measuring of components.

The expert should, if possible, become familiar with the personal background and interests of each judge. This understanding will help the expert to involve the jury and effectively teach the concepts. This is crucial because judges ultimately understand better and relate better to the expert witness who simply delivers complex messages.

In Wirley v. Central Florida Young Men’s Christian Association, 228 So.3rd 18 (Florida, 2017), the Supreme Court ruled disclosure of a financial relationship between a party, a plaintiff’s attorney and an expert, is no longer discoverable. That Court did not, answer the question of whether the same rule applies regarding a defense lawyer’s relationship with an expert.

The CFLC credential recognizes that certificants are familiar with duties and responsibilities of providing forensic, consulting and expert witness services in litigated claims. Additionally, the CFLC credential signifies that in addition to meeting FEWA's experience and membership requirements, these CFLCs have further met minimum continuing education requirements in the CFLC Core Program.
