FEWA’s Certified Forensic Litigation Consultant (CFLC) and Master Certified Forensic Litigation Consultant (MCFLC) certifications set certificants above the rest. CFLC and MCFLC certificants exhibit the experience and knowledge expected of an expert or consultant, giving an attorney the confidence needed when selecting an expert. If you’re an expert, take the time to learn more about the CFLC or the MCFLC Certification to see if it’s the right next step for your professional development. If you’re an attorney, look for the CFLC or MCFLC in members’ designations or on their FEWA online profile to help give you the confidence you need when sifting through experts.

Industry News

It’s no secret that the effectiveness of an expert witness at trial can mean the difference between winning or losing a case. In litigation, attorneys traditionally prioritize retaining expert witnesses under three main criteria—subject-matter expertise, education, and expert witness experience. Any other qualifying characteristics, including diversity, are typically considered icing on the cake if the first three criteria are met.

Although you’re an expert in your field, perhaps you’re not landing as many expert witness roles as you’d like. Your resume is impressive and you have robust industry experience. So why aren’t more hiring attorneys reaching out? Many experts overlook the interview basics beyond a stellar profile or CV. In order to secure retention on a case, you must also demonstrate to an attorney why you’re a great fit. Much of it comes down to a little more effort on your part to provide a more personal touch.

Over the years, expert witnesses have become just as critical as attorneys in modern litigation. In light of this trend, attorneys have often asked themselves and others what to look for in the search for an ideal expert. See the relationship between experts and attorneys and get guidance on how, through proper communication and delegation of tasks, litigators can form successful dynamics with their experts and get the most out of these witnesses.

A licensed, qualified, and experienced psychiatric professional can be an invaluable asset to civil litigation or criminal prosecution. After conducting your search for an appropriate expert to bolster your case, your initial consultation will be your first chance to sit down with the proposed expert and find out whether they will provide your case with what you need.

Attorneys will frequently use expert witnesses from various industries to establish the facts in a case. This often includes assessing and calculating damages in order to assess their primary cause and any contributing factors. Structural engineers may be called upon to evaluate a damaged structure and provide reports or testimony regarding the cause of the damage and if any material or building defects could be to blame.
