The Forensic Expert Witness Association offers webinars specifically tailored to the continuing education of expert witnesses. The FEWA Webinar series are free for all FEWA members, and offered at the low price of $30 for non members. The webinars are created to fit within the CFLC Core Program.

ATTENTION to current CFLC’s who are due to expire this year — you must take the exam and submit your recertification application before December 31, 2019.

CLFC certified consultants must complete ongoing certification requirements in order to maintain certification. These requirements include meeting the minimum required number of Participation and Coursework points and, if applicable, passing the CFLC exam. All requirements must be completed by the expiration date in order to avoid certification expiration. All fees are non-refundable. The CFLC certification is valid for three years.

Andrea Roth is a new member of FEWA's Northern California Chapter.

Andrea has been in the art field for close to 30 years as an academic, gallery administrator and art appraiser. She is the principal appraiser at Roth Fine Art Appraisals and supervises all appraisal functions. She is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) with the American Society of Appraisers; and she specializes in both European and American paintings and sculptures. She has worked with attorneys in litigations concerning artwork that involve insurance claims, divorce and estate disputes as well as appraisal review.

Prior to founding Roth Fine Art Appraisals, Andrea taught Art History at UC Davis, UC Riverside and Santa Clara University. She worked at the J. Paul Getty Art History Information Program and was Assistant Editor of the Art Bulletin. As a Fulbright Scholar, she studied Northern Italian Renaissance Art History while living in Italy. Andrea currently serves on the Board of Directors of St. Mary’s College Art Museum and lectures on art collecting and valuation for insurance professionals, estate planners, attorneys and collectors.

Sometimes it’s really nice to have some quiet time just to think and focus on what you want to achieve, and there’s no better time for that than summer when your workload may be a bit slower and you have a little more free time on your hands.

You're a clinician. You had a patient die under your care, and now your hospital is being sued. You are not named in the lawsuit, but you are being asked to give a deposition. How much of your time is this going to take? If some lawyer sends you thousands of pages to review before scheduling multiple phone calls and prep sessions and, finally, a deposition under oath ... what do you say? What is your obligation to testify in court as a scientific expert?

Lawyers from the school-of-self-reliance tend to conduct their own expert witness searches. They figure they know what they need in an expert better than anyone else. However, a recent study shows nearly half of lawyers are ditching the do-it-yourself (DIY) model for an expert witness referral service.

In an amicus brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court recently, the ABA says: “Imposing governmental attorneys’ fees on patent applicants who choose civil actions under [the law] will hamper equal access to justice and chill the assertion of meritorious claims.”

This year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) classified burnout as a legitimate syndrome caused by a highly stressful working life. From feeling overwhelmed to finding it impossible to switch off, it’s an epidemic that is sweeping a world now steeped in distracting technology, information overload and privacy scarcity.
