FEWA Virtual Networking is back for another program in July! The next installment of the FEWA Virtual Networking series will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at 1:00 PM PT.

The FEWA Virtual Networking series provides a platform for FEWA members to meet each other online and connect regardless of location. Experts are able to discuss expert witness best practices, share experiences, provide referrals, and have the opportunity to build relationships with other members nationwide.

The Forensic Expert Witness Association offers webinars specifically tailored to the continuing education of expert witnesses. The FEWA Webinar series are free for all FEWA members, and offered at the low price of $30 for non members. The webinars are created to fit within the CFLC Core Program.

Ms. Haraminac is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE from ACFE), a Master Analyst in Financial Forensics (MAFF from NACVA), a Licensed Private Investigator (PI from TX PSB), and a Licensed CE Instructor (TX PSB). She has conducted traditional fraud investigations and financial forensic engagements, deploying sophisticated methods to determine whether indications of fraud exist, to prevent fraud, and to assess the risk of fraud in an organization.

Ten years ago, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) published a groundbreaking study on the use of forensics in criminal trials. The study found that, in the “pattern matching” fields of forensics in particular, expert witnesses had been vastly overstating the significance and certainty of their analyses.

The character of the professions, given so much online work activity, is undergoing a massive shift. More workers are leaving their companies and organizations to consult, become independent contractors, or start a small business of their own, and more companies are relying on contractors and freelancers to handle their work.

Most US states currently follow the standard set forth in Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals when it comes to qualifying expert witnesses. Others, however, adhere to the older Frye standard, use a combination of Daubert and Frye, or use their own standard. Take a look at a few states that don’t follow Daubert and the paths they have chosen instead.

The Florida Supreme Court has reversed a prior court’s decision to use a nearly 100-year-old standard on expert witness testimony and instead adopted stricter federal standards currently used by a majority of states.
