2016 turned out to be another successful year for AFA University with over 100 attendees. New this year was combining all four schools into a one week event. Many participants enjoyed the camaraderie of the schools sharing the dining periods while building strong teamwork during the classes. Some of the comments received were "This school has given me the ability to feel good about gate operators and the confidence to get the job done." Another comment was, "I absolutely love this course. It means more than I can express. The level of professionalism and the absolutely enormous amount of knowledge I am taking back with me is immeasurable. I cannot wait for the next AFA event." AFA University is held every November. Watch for 2017’s University registration opening in the summer.

Association News
It was Oct. 1 of this year when a fence owner discovered his general liability claim was denied by the insurance company. The accident occurred on August 10, when one of his employees accidentally damaged part of a house in Orange County, California. The owner of the fencing company began reviewing his current general liability policy and read it from front to back. This was the first time he noticed that he had a residential exclusion in his general liability policy. The owner had no idea that he was not covered for this type of work. Can this happen to you and your fence company? Yes, it can.

MEMBER SAVINGS PROGRAM PARTNERS
A federal judge in Texas has temporarily blocked the Department of Labor's new white-collar overtime rules from taking effect on Dec. 1. A preliminary injunction issued Nov. 22 means employers only have to pay overtime to exempt workers who make less than $23,660 annually—not $47,476, the salary threshold set out in final rules issued in May.
