FAA President Lori Trainer presents a check to James McDonald, academic dean at Valencia College, to support scholarships for students in the new residential property management degree program.

The Florida Apartment Association has contributed $25,000 to the Valencia College Residential Property Management Scholarship Fund, to benefit students who enroll in the college's new two-year degree program.

Valencia College launched the associate in science program to help Florida's multifamily industry meet the growing need for qualified property management staff. The degree program will begin at Valencia's Osceola County campus in January. Future plans call for online courses as well.

The scholarship fund can be used by students throughout the state of Florida who meet the eligibility criteria, and 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to students enrolled in the program. (Valencia's Foundation pays for administration from  investment funds -- never from funds and gifts raised from donors.)

As the tourism capital of the world, Florida continues to see an increase in apartment and multifamily rental communities, as well as the need for skilled and talented managers to help oversee and manage them. Through Valencia’s A.S. degree in property management, students are trained to become highly qualified managers and other on-site personnel to help manage and operate residential rental properties.
