Legislative Days 2014 Follow Up

On Feb. 4-5, 2014, more than 130 members of the Florida Apartment Association descended upon Tallahassee to share our industry's needs and perspectives for the upcoming Legislative Session. Though our conference took place during Committee Weeks this year, members were enthusiastic about their experiences, citing the benefits of spending more time with the legislators than during the hectic regular session.

As is tradition, we started off with the Legislative Briefing, where we discussed our issues and the positions we have taken on bills that have been filed. We also welcomed Fred Tayco of the National Apartment Association. He provided us with a review of federal issues and got us excited about our upcoming Capitol Conference in March. At the dinner, we were pleased to hear from State Representative Jeanette Nunez and from State Senator, Majority Leader and Congressional Candidate Lizbeth Benacquisto.

While visiting the Capitol on Wednesday, our main focus was to share our legislative platform and to remind our policymakers that we are ready to serve as a source of information and guidance on any legislation that would have an impact on the multifamily industry.

As bills continue to be filed, FAA will be working in concert with the lobbying team, our Session Attorney and with the Government Affairs Council to regularly monitor and opine when necessary. Please visit the "Members Only" section of the FAA website to access information about our platform, bills we are monitoring and any calls to action. You will also find relevant news that will help paint a broader picture of the happenings in Tallahassee.

We thank you for your interest and for your continued support of the Government Affairs Program.
