MN's New Retirement Requirement
Employers with 5+ employees who don’t offer a retirement plan will need to enroll in the new Minnesota Secure Choice Retirement Program. While the state plan is simple, it only allows employees to save small amounts through an IRA.

Minimum-wage rate adjusted for inflation as of Jan. 1, 2026
Minnesota’s minimum-wage rate will be adjusted for inflation on Jan. 1, 2026, to $11.41 an hour for all employers in the state. The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul have minimum-wage ordinances that require higher minimum-wage rates for work performed in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Construction Employment Falls for Third Straight Month in August
Source: ABC. The construction industry lost 7,000 jobs in August, per Associated Builders and Contractors. Nonresidential construction employment decreased by 1,300 positions, nonresidential building lost 3,300 jobs, and nonresidential specialty trade lost 200 positions. Heavy and civil engineering added 2,300 jobs last month.

Unemployment Explained
Workforce statistics recently released showed what many of you may have been feeling in 2024, nearly a million jobs were reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics between March of 2024 through March of 2025 that did not exist.  August jobs report reflected an increase in 22,000 jobs.  13,000 jobs were lost in June which is the first negative jobs report survey since December of 2020.
