Eden Prairie, MN — Hennepin Technical College (HTC) is proud to announce the launch of a new Construction Electrician program at its Eden Prairie campus beginning Fall 2025. The two-year diploma program is designed to meet growing workforce demands in the skilled trades and will be the only evening program of its kind offered within the Minnesota State system, providing flexible access for working adults and career changers.

The Construction Electrician program consists of more than 2,000 instructional hours, aligned with the competencies required by the Minnesota DLI. Upon completion, students will receive credit toward their journey worker electrician license and gain a solid foundation in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems.

“The demand for electricians continues to grow across Minnesota,” said Mark Johnson, Dean of Construction and Transportation at HTC. “By offering this program in the evening, we’re removing barriers for those who need to work during the day but want to build a stable, in-demand career in the electrical trade.”

In addition to hands-on lab instruction, the program will incorporate state-of-the-art tools and safety protocols, including virtual reality training modules, energy-efficient systems, and smart technology integration. Students will gain experience with the National Electrical Code (NEC), blueprint reading, wiring practices, and installation of lighting, conduit systems, panels, and more.

HTC is working in partnership with industry leaders and regional employers to ensure that curriculum aligns with real-world expectations and emerging technologies. Graduates will be well-prepared for entry-level employment and long-term success in the electrical field.

The new program supports HTC’s mission to deliver accessible, hands-on education an ever-changing global environment that leads directly to employment. Applications for Fall 2025 enrollment are now open and the college expects strong interest from both prospective students and local employers.

“This initiative reflects HTC’s continued commitment to responsive workforce education and industry needs,” said Joy Bodin, President of Hennepin Technical College. “It’s about meeting students where they are and preparing them for high impact, high demand growth areas.”
