I've woken up each morning for the past 10 days to largely positive news. Today, we were again trending 18% in new COVID-19 cases nationwide. Optimism is again taking hold – this time much more swiftly – and instead of asking IF we are going to move forward with meetings next year, many of us are exploring HOW. Duty of Care will be the key to 2022 in our community. We are going to need all of the brainpower we can get to make that happen and move forward together.

As event professionals, we have always been accustomed to thinking on our feet. We take in information from our teams, clients and event suppliers and create the most amazing experiences. And although the changes that we’ve had to manage haven’t been easy, in recent times science, laws and regulations can bring change quickly, and as event professionals, we must be ready for it.

However, managing change for continued periods of time can be exhausting and mentally taxing. This constant shifting can create toxic stress that can eventually lead to burnout. Thus, it is increasingly important for event professionals to learn how to navigate burnout. These tips may be helpful as you continue to push the industry forward while planning events.

How many years have you been a CMP?

I’ve been a CMP for almost four years.

Where did you grow up?

My hometown is Stuttgart, Germany. After I finished school, I started to move abroad and have lived in 10 cities in the past 15 years.

What did you want to (or think you’d) be when you grew up?

I had many ideas and they changed often. Some of the most persistent were photographer, journalist and fashion designer.

EIC has recently launched the first phase of our landmark Equity Acceleration Plan.

This will focus on establishing a benchmark by which to measure progress for the industry through a survey to determine the current state of diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace across the events industry. The results of this benchmark will inform the development of tools, resources and recommendations in the subsequent phases on the Equity Acceleration Plan, which aims to provide a framework to turn our vision to action and lead the challenge against discrimination and systemic racism in the events industry.

To take part in the survey please visit https://kaiwa.culturelytics.ai/EIC/. The survey will close on 15th October 2021.
