Recently, the Events Industry Council hosted its annual CMP Conclave. The event is a wonderful educational opportunity that touches on so many topics relevant to CMPs. What I love about this event is how invigorated I feel when I get back home. Not only do I get to interact with and learn from my peers, I get a chance to see what sparks inspiration for others.
 
This time of year can be a bit tough. We’re wrapping up a lot of things and looking forward to the new year—and it can feel like we’re in two places at one time. Often when that happens, you can lose sight of what drove you to become event and meeting professionals in the first place.

The Events Industry Council announced leadership appointments for its board of directors and CMP Governance Commission, effective 1 January 2020.

 

"Our incoming and reappointed board and commission members are accomplished leaders who bring diverse perspectives, insights and experiences that will elevate our organisation’s efforts in championing the global events industry," said EIC’s chief executive, Amy Calvert.

 

Board officers and directors are nominated by the membership, which is comprised of more than 30 organisations in the events industry. Collectively, board members serve as the council’s governing body, hold fiscal responsibility and provide strategic direction for its programmes and services.

This month, I attended the UN Climate Conference, COP25, where I had the honour of being part of a panel presentation on the role of the events industry in bringing people together for climate. This was a table turn for me, as I’m usually speaking with event professionals about the sustainability imperative, and now I was speaking with climate experts about the value of events.

The IMEX-EIC Innovation in Sustainability Award has been designed to celebrate event professionals driving sustainability forward through innovation, collaboration and idea sharing. The award recognises the meeting or project owner, and other stakeholders such as the event organiser, the venue and other key suppliers, rather than individual achievements by a single supplier or event.

 Join us for a case study on how Copenhagen, as a congress destination, worked with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). This webinar will present and showcase two Danish hosts who have partnered with international associations in either incorporating the UN SDGs in their congresses or contributing to the goals. Presenters will share examples of SDG implementations from the Congress of the International Water Association–IWA 2020 and the Congress of the Union of International Architects–UIA 2023. Look for inspiration to see how you and your destination or event can do similar activations.

We want to hear from Meeting Professionals! EIC is partnering with the IRF as it conducts the 2020 IRF Wellness in Meetings and Incentives survey to find out how meeting professionals are incorporating wellness into meetings and what types of wellness inclusions you’d like to add in 2020. The survey also asks for your insights and practical advice on how you maintain your personal wellness during those rigorous days onsite at meetings and events.

 

By completing this survey, you will help provide critical industry insights, contribute to trend and benchmark research, and help the IRF provide the most current information on best practices in wellness. Results will be published in a free report to be released in early 2020.

 

The 2019 IRF Wellness in Meetings and Incentives Study was an important study, and we look forward to updating and expanding this research with your help.

 

The deadline to submit is 24 December 2019.
