IMEX Group has been committed to implementing sustainable event practices at both IMEX America and IMEX Frankfurt for several years. As part of a trial period earlier this year, the Events Industry Council (EIC) released the new EIC Sustainable Event Standards, which IMEX began to implement in its planning process. The results of this experience was a captivating conversation at IMEX Frankfurt, and the conversation continued in Las Vegas. Keeping that commitment to sustainable practices, you are invited to hear about the experiences from both events in this case study presentation.

Learning outcomes:
  • Learn about the changes to the sustainable event standards from the previous APEX/ASTM version
  • Hear about initiatives at IMEX including water-wise choices, materials donation and exhibitor engagement
  • Learn how to implement the new EIC Sustainable Event Standards for event organisers and suppliers

Combining active learning and experiential elements, this Sustainable Event Professional Certificate (SEPC) programme is designed to enable participants to implement their own sustainable events. The next SEPC programme will be offered in conjunction with CMP Conclave at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO. Conferences and trade shows provide education and opportunity to a wide range of people with different abilities. It is more important than ever to make sure these people can access the full range of opportunities your event has to offer, both online and onsite. That’s why many tech companies are embracing website accessibility standards like WCAG 2.1.

Industry news
Conversations around sustainability are commonplace in many companies. The events and meetings industry is no different. Translating those conversations into action takes commitment and the know-how to make it happen. The events industry’s size, reach and global impact puts it in a unique position to lead the effort to affect meaningful change around the adoption of sustainability practices.

For those looking for direction on what to implement—or to connect with others already doing the work—there’s now one centralised resource to look to. The Events Industry Council (EIC) leadership came together with several industry partners to launch the EIC Centre for Sustainable Events. The Centre is a virtual platform that offers resources, webinars, groundbreaking research and tools for those looking to increase their sustainability efforts. It is also a vehicle to drive awareness and collective action to support global concerns on topics such as environmental and social justice issues, accessibility, and diversity and inclusion.
