CMPs and CMP Fellows Take Center Stage in New York

In a few days, EIC will welcome our CMP community to New York for CMP Advance. We plan to cover areas and topics that are the most important issues we are facing today – and leading into the future. Organised with the EIC pillars of People, Planet and Purpose, we will explore belonging, mindfulness and wellbeing, regenerative and sustainable event practices, negotiations, accessible and inclusive environments, digital strategies, and the future of the events economy.

Immediately following the CMP Advance programme, EIC will convene our inaugural CMP Fellows Retreat and Think Tank. We are so fortunate that Terri Breining, CMP, CMM, CED, President of Breining Group Inc., will lead these deep discussions.

These two programmes were designed by CMPs, exclusively for CMPs. There is a great sense of energy and momentum as we anticipate the CMP community meeting in person again in one of the most incredibly dynamic and diverse cities on our planet, New York City.

To support and inform our discussion around the events economy, EIC will soon release the 2023 Global Economic Impact of Business Events study. We partnered with Oxford Economics to build a comprehensive study to evaluate the full scope and economic significance of the $1.6 trillion USD global business events industry. Beyond better understanding pre-pandemic benchmarks and 2020 losses, the extensive research analysis across 50 countries includes the important “catalytic” effects or wide-reaching benefits of business events. We will share an executive summary of this study on our website next month.

In April, we all recognised National Volunteer Week. We would not be able to do what we do without our member volunteers, so I would again like to recognise and thank our Board, Council of Delegates, and CMP Governance Commission as well as our Sustainability and Social Impact Committee, our Equity Task Force, Knowledge Committee, and APEX Commission. We are grateful and inspired by the leadership the CMP community provides across the global business events sector.

Our industry is seeing a clear pathway to recovery, thanks in large part to the leadership, vision and dedication of the CMP community. I look forward to seeing many of you in New York at CMP Advance and to sharing more about the ideas and outcomes that result from our time together.

Amy Calvert, CEO, Events Industry Council
