Dedicated volunteers drive excellence for CMP programme

We are halfway through the calendar year, and what a year it has been, thus far. While so much is going on around us, and within our industry, I’d like to share some updates on what is happening within the CMP programme.

Earlier this month, the CMP Governance Commission met virtually. Over two days, we talked about many of the key initiatives we have in process for the programme. It also occurred to me that many of you may not know about the commission and its role.

Your CMP peers volunteer to serve on this commission for a three-year term. This group meets monthly via teleconference and twice per year in person (which we look forward to getting back to). The Commission’s various subcommittees and task forces meet, as needed, throughout the year to continue to push the CMP programme forward. Our role is to oversee the CMP programme, policies and exam. To say that this group of volunteers is committed to and passionate about CMP is an understatement.

Some of our current initiatives include increasing access to the CMP exam, building the CMP brand and community, and how we can support CMPs during these difficult times.

I share all of this to remind us all that the CMP is developed by, managed by and overseen by industry peers – our peers who help drive excellence within our industry.

The commission will make some important and exciting announcements in July. We will set up office hours and webinars to connect with you and answer questions. Also, in July, we will open nominations to serve on the commission. I welcome you to nominate yourself or a peer to join this dedicated group that aspires to be a true voice for our community.

Speaking to the depth of our community, many candidates are busy preparing for the August and November exams – and have waited patiently as test centres re-open from COVID-19 closures. I know that you join me in offering our support and well wishes. I’d also like to congratulate Milica Gavrilović, CMP-HC, who passed her CMP-HC exam this May, and who is featured in this month’s newsletter.

We continue to offer COVID-19 relief support, including a freeze on the recertification fee at $225 USD through 30 September 2020. If you are due to recertify this year, please consider taking advantage of that discount.

During this period of continued challenges and transition, I hope you find connection and support through this CMP community.

Barbara Connell, CAE, CMP

Chair of the CMP Governance Commission
