The Dallas area added 11,600 construction jobs in the building sector in the year through May to lead the nation in that category, according to the Associated General Contractors of America. Across the US, "While nearly two-thirds of metro areas added construction jobs in the last 12 months, the total would have been higher if contractors could find qualified workers," AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson says. - The Dallas Morning News
Construction is highly labor-intensive, and nothing gets done without our highly skilled and dedicated workforce. While standards tend to treat everyone equally, construction workers are not equally affected by heat. Those with certain health conditions or circumstances are more susceptible to heat illness. Thus, requirements designed for the least affected workers might not be sufficient to protect those at higher risk. One size does not fit all. - ABC National

What's Happening at TEXOWhat's Happening at TEXO
This course prepares the participants to become a trainer in the OSHA Outreach Training Program, conduct both the 10- and 30-hour Construction Outreach classes and issue OSHA Outreach Cards to participants after verifying course completion. Using the OSHA Construction Standards as a guide, the course emphasizes those topics required in the 10- and 30-hour programs, as well as those which are most hazardous.

The 2-day TEXO OSHA 10-Hour course serves as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926. Workers must receive additional training on the specific hazards of the job when required by OSHA standards. After completing the course, participants are mailed an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Industry Outreach wallet-sized card.

This is an instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrive. Skills covered in this course include first aid for sudden illnesses, injuries and protection from blood-borne pathogens, choking relief and sudden cardiac arrest for adults. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety course is intended for supervisors or for workers with some safety responsibility. It provides a greater depth and variety of training on an expanded list of topics associated with workplace hazards than the TEXO Safety First class. Topics include recognition, avoidance, abatement and prevention of safety and health hazards found in the workplace.
