OSHA has issued a final rule requiring personal protective equipment in the construction industry to properly fit each worker, effective Jan. 11. The regulation aligns with general industry and maritime standards, addressing long-standing safety concerns, particularly among women and workers with atypical sizes. OSHA does not anticipate the rule will increase costs or compliance burdens. - Occupational Health & Safety
Input and bid prices for construction remained stable from October to November, with the producer price index for new nonresidential building construction rising 1.5% year over year and the PPI for material and service inputs edging up 0.2%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Notable changes included a 21% year-over-year decrease in diesel fuel prices and a 15% increase in copper and brass mill shapes.
- Construction Citizen Each year, university students in construction programs travel to DFW to showcase their skills and connect with TEXO member companies about career opportunities. Students participate in four divisions: commercial, design-build, heavy civil, and concrete solutions. Teams are challenged with quick turn-around bid proposals and in-person presentations. This event gives industry professionals valuable face time with ambitious students and future recruits, and several sponsorships are still available to support the next generation of construction pros.
