This Construction Career Day at the DFW Education Center has been organized to introduce select, local students who have shown interest in construction to the exciting opportunities in our industry. Teachers will hand-pick students who have earned their chance to attend the event. By participating in the Career Day event, companies will be able to access potential new hires, tell students the real story of working in the industry and impact their career paths and futures.

Awards will include $1000 Academic Scholarships for active students plus the $500 Certificates of Award for candidates who have completed the CCIFP or CPA exam.  These awards offer a great opportunity to encourage area students to participate in the construction industry or to recognize the professional development of current employees and future leaders.  For more information click here!

Over the past several weeks TEXO members have stepped up to contribute $58,340 towards the goal of $75,000 to the TEXO-PAC and $89,600 to the TEXO Advocacy Fund goal of $100,000.

TEXO–PAC, our Associations political action committee, is an essential part of the TEXO political policy and advocacy program. TEXO-PAC provides contributions in support of pro-business free market minded candidates for both statewide office and in local races. As state and local laws and regulations become an ever-increasing presence in your day-to-day business, TEXO-PAC works to make sure your voice is heard by lawmakers and those making public policy decisions.

If you have not done so yet, you still have time to join the growing list of members who have committed to protecting our industry voice in the political arena. Please assist us in meeting our 2015 fundraising goals by clicking here

Thank you! 2015 TEXO-PAC and Advocacy Fund Supporters

It seems every major daily newspaper in Texas is reporting on the many job cuts in our state's oil and gas industry. AGC of America just released "Ready to Hire Again: The 2015 Construction Hiring and Business Outlook." In summary, the 10-page report describes the growing shortage of qualified workers-especially craft workers. That's one of the reasons an industry coalition developed a new statewide workforce development website, www.texasconstructioncareers.com. It is designed to connect laid off workers to meaningful, well-paying jobs in the construction industry.  Employers can post positions, check out industry job fairs, and take inventory of all the craft providers in Texas. This unique program provides an industry specific orientation in safety which all commercial contractors can use. A six module training course has been created for Site Superintendents to gain a better understanding of the requirements of the Stormwater program. Training will include how to conduct oneself during a regulatory agency’s site inspection and how to conduct a site inspection themselves. Also, training will cover highlights of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and the difference between a structural control and a non-structural control. By the end of the six modules, a Site Superintendent will be more familiar with the vernacular used by stormwater professionals and will be able to display their knowledge so that the regulatory agency is comfortable that their site is in compliance with the program. All module training courses are presented by a member and instructor of the International Erosion Control Associations (IECA).
