USSD Board of Directors has approved the formation of an ad-hoc committee to explore hosting an ICOLD Annual Meeting by the end of this decade. One of the initial goals is to gain support from ICOLD member countries, including the ICOLD National Committees of the Americas (INCA), as well as the ICOLD Board and staff. In previous years, USSD has successfully organized social events to gather international support for significant milestones such as the nomination of Mike Rogers to serve as ICOLD President and, more recently, the nomination of Dean Durkee to serve as ICOLD VP at-large.

In April, the USSD Board of Directors approved the expenditure to host a modest social event during ICOLD 2023 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Scheduled for the evening of June 12, this event provides USSD members with an opportunity to engage with invited guests from ICOLD, INCA member countries, and other partners to rally support for USSD’s bid to host a future ICOLD Annual Meeting. The timing of this event to be held in Sweden will allow the participation of a relatively large number of USSD members who can actively promote the organizations intention to host a future ICOLD Annual Meeting.

Additionally, USSD is seeking sponsors to help share the cost of this event. Organizations interested in learning more about available opportunities for providing financial support are encouraged to contact Catrice Jones, Executive Director.
