CWWA is excited to be teaming up with Water Canada magazine and the 2026 Water Canada Awards to sponsor two new awards specifically for municipal utilities. These awards will recognize Canadian utilities as water leaders driving innovation and engaging their communities.
Nominations are open until April 24th and we encourage all our members with eligible projects to apply!
Municipal Early Adopter Award
This award recognizes a forward-thinking municipality that has demonstrated exceptional leadership by being among the first to implement a new technology, pilot a cutting-edge process, or adopt a transformative management framework. The recipient has shown a willingness to embrace “first-of-its-kind” solutions to address local water, wastewater, or stormwater challenges, providing a roadmap for other Canadian utilities. This award celebrates the courage to innovate and the successful integration of new advancements into municipal operations to improve efficiency, sustainability, and service delivery.
- Criteria: Must be a Canadian municipality or municipal utility.
- Focus: Successful implementation of emerging tech, innovative procurement, or pioneering operational practices.·
Municipal Community Outreach & Engagement Award
Acknowledging that the success of water infrastructure often depends on public trust and understanding, this award honours a municipality that has developed an outstanding outreach or public education program. The recipient has demonstrated creativity and transparency in engaging residents on topics such as water conservation, infrastructure upgrades, rate changes, or environmental protection. Through impactful campaigns, this municipality has successfully fostered a deeper connection between its citizens and the essential water services they rely on.
- Criteria: Must be a Canadian municipality or municipal utility.
- Focus: Excellence in public communication, stakeholder engagement, and building community support for water initiatives.
