Murder in the Aeration: A Murder Mystery for our Water & Wastewater Sector

Former wastewater-professional-turned-author John Seldon has released his second murder mystery, "Murder in the Aeration,” and again it is set in surroundings that will be very familiar to CWWA members. After 50 years as a wastewater professional, John took up writing and, as they always say, you should write about what you know! John did just that with his first novel "Murder in the Primary” and CWWA ran a very positive review of that book a couple years back.

John has now released his second novel, "Murder in the Aeration,” so we have returned to our celebrity book reviewer Paul Drca. As a retired wastewater worker himself, we thought Paul could give us an honest review. CWWA members may remember Paul as a leader in our Wastewater Committee and his work with MESUG in Ontario.

A Review of John Seldon’s Murder in the Aeration
by Paul Drca, April, 2024

Walter Stillwell, Port Talbot Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent, and Ontario Provincial Police Constable Patricia Klein reunite to investigate allegations of potential fraud at a southwestern Ontario wastewater treatment plant. Is this fraud related to a missing wastewater treatment plant superintendent who was found dead in the aeration tank? Was it murder or an accident?

Follow the pair as they travel through towns and cities, crossing Canada’s southernmost highways, while finding good places to eat, and enjoying each other’s company as they search for, and interview suspects. Each uses their own unique professional skills to distill seemingly disconnected clues in search of answers...often wondering if a crime was even committed.

Standing well on its own, Murder in the Aeration (MITA) picks up where Seldon’s prequel, Murder in the Primary (MITP), left off. Similar to MITP, MITA is a good, entertaining read with perhaps a more complicated and exciting plot that keeps you thinking and engaged right to the end.
