Security and Emergency Management Committee?

CWWA’s Security and Emergency Management Committee held a teleconference with its members on February 23. 


The agenda addressed the following points of interest:

(Adrian Toth provided members with a summary of the successful work undertaken by members of the Security Committee in collaboration with Dalhousie University and Public Safety Canada to produce a Risk Profile for the Canadian water sector as well as a roadmap for improvement. The yearlong study to understand how water and wastewater operators perceive risks was conducted by Dalhousie University with water utility operators and regulators, members of CWWA.

Update on National Cross Sector Forum & Multi-Sector Network
Ian Mcilwham, Chair of the Security Committee and Pat Bellemare, Past-chair informed members about the topics discussed at the two major national events organized by Public Safety Canada where CWWA represents the water sector. Next National Cross Sector Forum will be held on May 31st.

Review of Terms of Reference
Members reviewed the Terms of Reference for the Security Committee and agreed upon the current format. 

Window on Ottawa 2018
Adrian provided a summary on the topics/speakers included on the conference agenda. It was agreed upon having an update from Public Safety Canada on current and emerging legislation impacting the security (physical and cyber) of municipal water sector.


National Conference on Water and Wastewater, Montreal 2018
Adrian informed members about the current status of the conference organizing and requested suggestions for relevant topics and speakers to be included in the conference program. A sub-committee was created to work on the Security stream of the conference.

World Water Day
A Roundtable Discussion on the Water Sector was organized by Public Safety Canada & CWWA to celebrate World Water Day. Ian Mcilwham, Helen Blais, Jon McPeake and Adrian Toth represented the Association at the event to discuss concerns regarding the water sector, cyber security issues and future research needs.
