Health Canada’s Federal-Provincial- Territorial Committee on Drinking Water, released July 23, 2015, notice of consultation on Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality - Guideline Technical Document on Chromium. 

A maximum acceptable concentration (MAC) of 0.1 mg/L (100 µg/L) is proposed for total chromium in drinking water.

Comments accepted until September 23, 2015.

The government is seeking feedback on the following:

• the proposed guideline;
• the approach used to develop the guideline;
• the potential costs of putting the guideline in place;
• how well certified laboratories can reliably measure chromium at or below the proposed maximum acceptable concentration; and
• the availability of additional exposure data (the levels of measured chemicals or other agents in people).

Based on the feedback received, the Guideline Technical Document on Chromium in Drinking Water will be updated.
