Canadian communities are facing challenges – due to growth, increasing urbanization, financial constraints, climate change and more. What information do water managers and decision-makers need to keep their cities healthy and safe?
Canadian Water Network’s Municipal Consortium Leadership Group – a proactive group of municipal water leaders from across Canada – have joined forces to define national priorities for municipal water management. These priorities form the basis for the 2014 Canadian Municipal Water Priorities Report, which highlights where improved knowledge and innovation can lead to practical solutions.
The Consortium Leadership Group looked at Canada’s current realities and challenges in drinking water, wastewater, stormwater and watershed management. Based on their shared knowledge and experience, they identified a framework of key decision areas for developing sustainable and resilient water systems.
Using this framework to shape their discussion, the Consortium Leadership Group identified four national priorities to guide Consortium research and initiatives in the coming years. Generating further collaborative action around these priorities is critical to more effectively managing the many facets of water in our communities.
