Environment Canada - Annual Greenhouse Gas Reports notice released

Environment Canada (EC) has published in the Canada Gazette on October 11th, 2014, a notice under Section 46 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, requiring the reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the year 2014. Facilities with GHG emissions that meet or exceed the 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (50 kt CO2 eq.) emissions threshold must report their GHG information to Environment Canada on or before June 1, 2015.

There are no changes to the reporting requirements from last year. EC would like to remind all reporters that, since 2013, all facilities are required to use updated Global Warming Potential (GWP) values when assessing whether they meet the 50 kt CO2 eq. reporting threshold and when reporting their emissions in CO2 eq. values.

If you submitted a 2013 GHG report and determined that you do not need to file a report for 2014, you must advise Environment Canada by the reporting deadline that you do not meet the reporting criteria for 2014. To meet this notification requirement, you have the option to submit a Does Not Meet Criteria notification through the Single Window (SW) system.

A link to the above notice and updated technical guidance to assist you in reporting to the GHGRP are available on the GHGRP website. The Notice with respect to reporting of greenhouse gases (GHG) for 2014 is available on the Canada Gazette website.

Information to be submitted in response to the above notice is collected via Environment Canada’s SW system. This system will be available for the reporting of 2014 data in the spring of 2015.
