On October 5, 2015, Prince Edward Island’s Minister of Communities, Land and Environment, Robert Mitchell, launched a series of Island-wide public meetings (ending November 26, 2015) to provide the government with feedback re: the development of PEI’s proposed new Water Act.

The planned act will provide water security, offer guidance for government decisions involving water management, and put legislation in place that will allow water challenges to be effectively addressed. A white paper for the proposed Water Act was released in July 2015 and outlines the components of an act that could be used to protect and conserve PEI’s water supply.

Round one of public consultations is to be completed by the end of 2015. A draft Water Act, Regulations, and round two of public consultations is scheduled for Spring 2016. Water Act completion is due Fall 2016.
