Appropriately, on World Water Day, March 22nd. Mary Ann Dickinson stepped down as President and CEO of the Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE). Mary Ann was the founding President of AWE and led its development to be the lead advocate for water efficiency in the US and around the world.

AWE has a significant presence in Canada, working closely with the Canadian National Water Efficiency Network and our own CWWA Water Efficiency Committee… and she ensures there is always a Canadian or two on the AWE Board of Directors. Mary Ann has been a very solid friend of the CWWA for many years, going to great efforts, to never miss our National Water & Wastewater Conference even once. Her contributions to CWWA, and to me personally as executive director, are immeasurable.

Mary Ann, you are truly AWEsome! You are always welcome to attend our national conference where we can sing this great Canadian song from Leonard Cohen:

Now so long, Mary Ann, it's time that we began
To laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again

Of course, we welcome Ron Burke as AWE’s new President and CEO. After spending the first twenty years of his career working on environmental policy and programs for nonprofits, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Illinois EPA, Ron has devoted the last decade to leading a sustainable transportation nonprofit organization and, more recently, working in the private sector with LYFT Bikes and Scooters. We look forward to working as closely with Ron.
