On April 9, 2019, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, announced the winning bid to create the new and independent climate institute, by the Pan-Canadian Expert Collaboration.

The Collaboration represents more than 15 diverse and reputable organizations across Canada, which will establish an independent, policy-oriented, not-for-profit national institute focused on clean growth and climate change.

The Pan-Canadian Expert Collaboration (expected to begin operations this spring) will create a new institute to generate, communicate, and mobilize trusted information, policy advice, and best practices for Canadians, governments, and stakeholders.

As of this year, the Pan-Canadian Expert Collaboration will be eligible to receive up to $20 million over five years to implement its vision for the institute.
